Yesterday I was in my food storage pantry doing stockpile rotation and realized that I had a bunch of dried milk that was out of date. Yike’s I’ve been really slipping here folks ): If you’ve read this blog for a while you guys know that I’ve become really frugal lately. I absolutely hate to waste anything. So after doing a little research on food safety I decided to find a recipe that I could use the dried milk in. Who would have known that I would find it on Pinterest!
Here is the link to the Pinterest original post. I started out by making a small batch. After preparing it, I decided that it had a little too much pepper in it for my taste. For you ladies and gentlemen that are working on a long-term food storage plan this recipe is for you! Just by adding a few dehydrated vegetables or a different flavor base this recipe can be modified into many versions. How does Creamy corn chowder sound on a cold winters night sound?? My version of the recipe is below:
Cream of Something Soup
1 cup dried milk
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup bouillon
4 Tablespoons freeze-dried minced onions
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon pepper
For the equivalent of one can of condensed cream soup, mix 1/3 cup dry mix with 1 1/4 cup water. Cook until thick.
Here are a few ideas for soup flavors:
Cream of Dill Potato
Cream of Broccoli
Cream of Vegetable
Cheddar Broccoli
Cream of Asparagus
Corn Chowder
Cream of Mushroom
Cream of Celery
Creamy Pumpkin
Cream of Cauliflower
Enjoy!
