One of the benefits of writing this column is, on occasion, getting to try beauty products that I would not ordinarily purchase. While sometimes these items are placed in the back of my cosmetic drawer – tried once, then forgotten – others become a regular part of my cosmetic routine.
Twice a year, the wonderful people at Belk host a program showcasing the seasonal trends in fashion. While the presentation is always enlightening, I look forward to the sampling of products they make available. This year, I was most interested in the Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream…especially when I read it was targeted for women age 40 and older. Perfect.
The Product
Clarins Extra Firming Day Cream. 50ml. $58. Available wherever Clarins products are sold.
The Promise
Clarins claims this Extra Firming Day Cream “energizes the skin, lifts and protects to help firm and tighten.” The product has a combination of white tea, succory dockcress and glycofilm to protect against free radicals and the harmful effects of the environment. Formulated for women around the age of 40, the cream claims to also help to slow the aging process with neuro-immune protection, to keep skin looking fresh, younger-looking and velvety-matte.
The Results
Like many beauty products for the skin, the results are often so gradual it’s difficult to see real differences over time. But when one of my co-workers, who hadn’t seen me for a while, mentioned that my skin looked tighter (I interpreted that to mean “less saggy!”) I took that as a sign of success. I had been using the Clarins Firming Day Cream for about three weeks at that point, and I felt a difference. My friend confirmed the visible difference. I apply it every morning, followed by a sunscreen, and primarily target the skin around my neck that has been on a steady Southern journey for quite some time. Within weeks, I noticed the difference in my profile, and can actually wear a turtleneck sweater again without fear of overflow!
Clarins makes a firming night cream as well, but I already have too many products in my nighttime arsenal. I’ll stick to the day cream. The day cream is a bit pricey, and there may be a similar product available at a lower price, which is common in skincare products. But a little of the cream goes a long way – I’ve been using the cream for more than a month now, and the jar is still nearly full.
