It promises to “firm, lift and tone” in just four weeks. And while I haven’t been using the newly formulated Clarins Extra-Firming Day Cream ($80) quite that long (yet!), my skin is definitely softer and more resilient.
How do I know? It has that extra-youthful springy quality that starts to fade as you approach your 40s (though I’m not quite there yet). I also noticed an increase in natural radiance after a few applications—a sort of “lit from within” glow that drowned out end-of-winter dullness.
I was a bit worried that the dense cream would be too think or leave my skin too oily—I was wrong on both accounts! The silky texture was really refreshing, and it absorbed quickly without any stickiness.
I applied foundation almost immediately, and was pleasantly surprised that there was no annoying ”rolling” of the makeup—one of my biggest pet peeves ever when skin cream doesn’t mesh well with foundation, leaving that peeling, gooey mess.
The product is packed with patent-pending ingredients, as well as a bevy of natural ones like organic green banana and organic lemon thyme for firming and oat sugars for lifting. The scent was lighter than many other Clarins products, which can be a bit overpowering, depending on your sensitivity to fragrance. It works nicely for day or night, which is always a bonus for spend-thrifts looking for a multitasking moisturizer. I wish the cream had the same SPF as the lighter lotion version, but a girl can’t have everything!
